Avascular necrosis of the hip (i.e. loss of blood supply of the femur head) leads to osteoarthritis and causes pain, restriction of movement and eventually patient is unable to carry out activities of daily living.
Early stages are managed by core decompression which may prevent further deterioration. If osteoarthritis develops then a TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT is the cure.
